The mill now known as NorSask Forest Products, was established in 1971. In 1998 MLTC-RDI, the private equity manager of the Meadow Lake Tribal Council, took over sole-ownership. We are known for consistent quality lumber; strong relationships with customers, and community; and responsible stewardship of the environment through our forest management subsidiary, Mistik Management Ltd. NorSask is also a one-eighth shareholder and allocation holder of Sakâw Askiy Management Inc., the licensee of the Prince Albert Forest Management Area.
NorSask produces exceptional-quality SPF (spruce, pine, fir) lumber in 2×3, 2×4 and 2×6 studs, in lengths ranging from five feet to nine feet. Our studs are kiln-dried and heat-treated (KD-HT), making them strong, long-lasting and resistant to decay and insects. The mill’s production capacity is currently 160 million board feet of lumber annually, enough to frame over ten thousand 2,000 sq ft homes.
In 2012 we began exploring opportunities in manufacturing softwood pellets from the mill’s planer shavings. Pellets, a renewable energy source, have long been popular in Europe, but they are relatively new to the North American market. We are currently developing internal markets for district heating applications in our Northern communities.
